Virgil van Dijk has insisted there is nothing to report on current contract negotiations with Liverpool, despite reports to the contrary and suggestions a deal could be around the corner.
Soccer News cover comments from the Liverpool captain today made in an interview with Viaplay, during which he was asked about his contract situation at Anfield.
The 33-year-old is one of three Liverpool stars who are out of contract next summer alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.
The focus has been on the latter for the last few weeks, particularly with him going out of his way to discuss the matter with journalists last week in what has been perceived as an attempt to put pressure on the club’s hierarchy.
Van Dijk, meanwhile, has remained coy on his future, with the Spanish press even taking the opportunity to ask him about joining Real Madrid this week following Liverpool’s 2-0 win at Anfield.
Viaplay wanted an answer to what’s going on behind the scenes, despite seemingly being told by Liverpool they were not allowed to.
“The club officially doesn’t allow me to ask you about the contract negotiations… But then I’m a bit like: one and one is two, right?” they are quoted as asking Van Dijk.
“To be honest, no,” responded the Liverpool star.
“There is no change at all, there is no update at all, there is no news for the outside world. So, I have nothing to share at all. There is nothing at all, it is all not true.”
