“Neither we nor Man United are concerned” – Club director moves to dispel doubts over player

Neither Werder Bremen nor Manchester United are worried about Tahith Chong’s lack of game time at the German club this season.

That’s according to the Bundesliga side’s Head of Professional Football Clemens Fritz, who insists the youngster will be given his chance this season.

Chong joined Werder on loan from Manchester United in the summer transfer window, electing to head to Germany in search of the same time that wasn’t on offer at Old Trafford.

He is yet to properly break into the first-team, though, managing just three appearances and 81 minutes of football to date, despite reports that he is impressing in training.

Some of this has not been his fault, with a recent positive test for teammate Felix Agu meaning Chong has had to quarantine for two weeks after being deemed as a category one contact.

Nonetheless, his lack of game time has been a little concerning given the whole point of the loan was to get him playing regularly to help his development.

Fritz has moved to dispel any worries, though, insisting the Manchester United youngster is on the right track.

“The exchange with Manchester is going very well,” Deichstube report him saying.

“Tahith is close to the team. Neither we nor Manchester United are concerned that he won’t get enough playing time.

“There will be enough time for it. You can already see developmental steps in him.” Steps that should lead to longer Bundesliga appearances as soon as possible.”
