The Spanish media have been speaking to anyone who can be remotely connected to this week’s big Champions League match between Manchester City and Barcelona. Southampton’s Oriol Romeu used to play for Barcelona, and now plays in English football… so he’s a good enough pick.
The midfielder believes things will be different, as long as Pep Guardiola doesn’t make the same mistakes: “It will not be a repeat of the 4-0. It will be much more even… unless Guardiola repeats the same approach.
“Pressing up to Barca man-marking is very complicated. Almost all teams that have done so have conceded goals. Eventually many spaces are left behind which Messi, Suarez and Neymar can leverage.”
Romeu was then asked to comment on Lionel Messi, with the Southampton player saying: “I wish I had him on my team.”
Many Southampton supporters would agree with Romeu’s wish, but perhaps this one is just stretching it a little too much. Anyway, who needs Lionel Messi when Southampton now have Sofiane Boufal getting into the swing of things?!
