Argentine outlet Olé today features a long interview with national team manager Lionel Scaloni. The World Cup qualifiers should be in swing this year, but the coach’s plans have been stopped by the Coronavirus crisis.
Scaloni has spoken about many of the options he has for the squad, and one of the topics was Tottenham Hotspur’s Juan Foyth.
When playing for Argentina last year, the defender has mostly been used as a right-back in the Copa America. Now the manager reveals that his decision has been praised by former Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella.
“When Sabella came to the venue it was exciting, he told us that he liked the decision to put Foyth in that position,” said Scaloni (via Olé).
Regarding Foyth’s future at the national team, Scaloni makes it clear that staying on the bench at Tottenham isn’t helping his chances. He has seven appearances for Spurs this season, with only 65 minutes in the Premier League.
“Since Mourinho arrived, Foyth hasn’t played at Tottenham, he had pubalgia. We need him to play, he’s very interesting, because he’s fast, strong, technically good.”
Juan Foyth made his debut for Argentina in November 2018, and was never left out of the squad again. He 10 caps for his country so far.
