Leicester City had a scout in Portugal to watch Benfica’s win over Gil Vicente in Liga Nos this week.

That’s according to A Bola, who say the Foxes were one of several clubs, including Manchester United, Atalanta and Mallorca to name just three.

Who Leicester were there to scout isn’t made clear, but the fact they were there is surprising as they are not often spotted at Benfica’s games.

Indeed, Porto is usually their favourite haunt, with them regularly keeping an eye on left-back Alex Telles amid the uncertainty around Ben Chilwell.

The England international has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with the likes of Chelsea thought to be keen, so there’s every chance Leicester are planning for such an eventuality.

And if that is the case, they may have now turned their attention to Benfica and their left-back, Alex Grimaldo, in particular.

He could be an alternative to Telles and suitable replacement for Chilwell, so it would make sense to have reports ready on him.

If they were there to watch him this week, though, they will have likely been a little disappointed by what they saw.

In a dull game overall, which Benfica won 1-0, Grimaldo failed to shine, earning a six out of ten from O Jogo and a three out of five from Record.

Those scores are as middling as you can get, although nobody aside from goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos got a good score in this game, so perhaps Leicester will want to watch a few more games before deciding on the left-back.
