Despite being one of the best performers in Ligue 1 during the first half of the season, Islam Slimani could be on his way out from Monaco in January.
A number of reports have suggested this, as the change of manager, with Robert Moreno replacing Leonardo Jardim in December, appears to have affected his status at the principality club.
A red card against Bordeaux also didn’t help his case, and L’Equipe on Sunday claimed Aston Villa had ‘taken information’ about the Algeria international as they continue their search for a player to fill the void left by Wesley Moraes’ severe injury.
Fast forward to Wednesday, and it’s Le 10 Sport who have an update on the potential transfer, reporting that Dean Smith’s side have now made the first move.
According to the French website, a loan offer to bring Slimani to Villa Park for the second half of the campaign has been made.
Aston Villa are said to be ‘very interested’ in the Leicester owned forward, who, per L’Equipe at the weekend, is keeping his options open, as he feels Monaco haven’t valued him enough after his great start to the season.
There’s no indication of whether Brendan Rodgers’ side would accept said loan offer, nor if the Ligue 1 club would actually be willing to part ways with Slimani, but the bid is reportedly there and worth considering for all involved if matters continue to turn sour in the principality.
