Manchester City signed Stevan Jovetić from Fiorentina in 2013.

He arrived at the Etihad after enjoying a good time with the Italian side, scoring 27 goals and registering eight assists in the league in his final two seasons at Fiorentina.

The Montenegro international failed to replicate his form for the Premier League winners. Multiple injuries also hampered his chances of featuring regularly for City. Despite that, the current AS Monaco striker won the league and the EFL Cup in his debut season in England.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport had a chat with Jovetić and during the course of the interview, the attacker explained he wanted to join Juventus the same summer he moved to City. However, one factor stopped him from signing for the Turin club.

“Fiorentina period is unique, a splendid city and passionate people. I went to Manchester City in 2013 for ambition: I wanted Juventus, but I could never betray my fans,” he said.

“At the same time, however, I wanted to win: The Premier League, the most difficult championship ever, and the League Cup are unforgettable.”

“The mistake was rejecting Real Madrid in 2009, I was not ready…”

Jovetić was at City for two seasons before they loaned him out to Inter Milan in 2015. A year later, he completed a permanent switch to the San Siro.
