AZ technical director Max Huiberts has told the Dutch media his former player Vincent Janssen is special. Janssen signed for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, but has struggled to find the net since stepping in for the injured Harry Kane.
However, from what he’s seen in Janssen he believes he will be a success because of his ability: “For ten years I had been a scout, I did nothing but evaluate players. I’ve seen them fail and succeed. Janssen is really special.”
When asked about the interest from Dutch sides Huiberts said there was interest, but questioned whether they could have paid what Tottenham did. Huibert said once he became aware of the interest from major foreign clubs it was always going to be difficult for Dutch clubs.
“Of course. But would it have been the same amount? Maybe we should make an exception. But there was soon interest from big foreign clubs. Dutch clubs can’t compete with that.”
Janssen signed for Tottenham in the last window for £17m, but has just one goal to his name so far this season. It was hoped he would get his chance to shine with the recent ankle injury to Kane, and he’s started the last two games. However, he’s failed to score in either game, and was substituted last night in the 67th minute against CSKA Moscow.
