Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has been called up to the Sweden squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers. Doubts could been have made on his place in Janne Andersson’s squad after failing to get games with Leeds United at the start of the season, but in recent weeks he’s become a key player in Garry Monk’s side.

Aftonbladet have confirmed Jansson has been selected for the games against Luxembourg and Bulgaria early next month.

Sweden will be hoping to get back to winning ways following their home draw against the Netherlands in their opening game of the qualifiers, but showed during that game they are a weaker side since Manchester Untied forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic retired after Euro 2016.

Jansson watched from the sidelines during the game with the Netherlands, and will now be hoping his form for Leeds United will get him the nod.

Since making his debut against Huddersfield Town, just after the last international break, Jansson has continued to impress for his new club. His emergence at Leeds United has coincided with the club’s rise up the Championship table, and now they are just two points off the play-off spots.
