In an exciting first year back in the Premier League for Wolves, Raul Jimenez was one of the star men.

Initially signed on loan last summer, the Mexican was given the task of leading Wolves attack and scoring the goals to keep them in the top flight.

That was something he did, and then some, bagging 13 league goals and eight assists to boot. Factor in another four goals in six FA Cup games and the Mexican finished with 17 goals and eights assists in 44 games in all competitions last season.

That was an impressive return and convinced Wolves to turn his move into a permanent one with a £34m deal this summer.

Jimenez’s impressive first year in England saw him quickly become a fan favourite and he recently sat down to discuss the adoration from the fans in an interview with Mexico’s GQ.

“To enter the stadium and see that they turn to me is something unique and unrepeatable,” he said.

“The song that they created for me I heard for the first time in February, in our stadium, but I did not understand it until little by little I deciphered it when a large part of the stadium learned it and sang it.

“The skin bristles. It’s something you dream of, although you cannot imagine it that way. But I think they just sing to me because, yes, I’m one of the people.”

The striker went on to discuss Wolves plans for next season and what he aims for personally.

With qualification for the Europa League secured, via a seventh-placed finish, Wolves fans will be hoping to see their side impressing on two fronts next season.

Jimenez’s goals will play a significant role in what success may come, with him now a key man in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. He plans to reward that faith shown in him by improving on this season’s haul.

“I am very happy and with the confidence that the institution has given me,” he added.

“They received me very well, they made me feel an important man and the following season, I must respond to that confidence. I have to make more goals. There are more expectations, and the challenge is greater.”
