On May 27th, Le10 Sport reported Arsenal had made ‘concrete progress’ towards signing William Saliba from Saint Etienne.

The Gunners were ready to pounce, and ASSE looking for a deal which would see them keep the 19 year old defender on loan for another season.

On June 12th, the same Le10 Sport reported Arsenal were ‘progressing well’ with their efforts to sign the youngster, and it was reiterated a further season at Saint Etienne, on loan, would be the desired outcome for Saliba’s current club.

Now L’Equipe have joined the claims, and they say Arsenal reached an agreement with the player on Sunday.

It means personal terms have been agreed on a five year contract.

That’s one part of a transfer sorted, but there’s still the tricky aspect of agreeing with the Ligue 1 club.

It’s been reported several times that Saint Etienne are looking for €30m, and it’s got to be questionable whether Arsenal would pay so much and allow the player to remain away for a year.
