Marcos Rojo may have only started two Premier League games last season, making a further three substitute appearances in the competition, but he very much remains a Manchester United player.
He was given a contract renewal in March 2018, and that lasts until June 2021, with the club having the option to extend in by a further year. Should he manage to remain at Old Trafford beyond the transfer window, then he’s going to be expected to offer more next season.
Injuries have been an issue for the Argentine, but also selection, and that sees him out of the latest Argentina squad.
Speaking to ESPN Argentina, he’s explained he plans to return to the national side, and knows he needs to do well at Manchester United for that to happen.
“It cost me because of the rain, the language, the sun never came out, but now it’s been 5 years and I’m comfortable.”
Manchester United wanted to make sure Rojo adapted as quickly as possible, so they sent him and Angel Di Maria to language classes, but it doesn’t sound like the pair took it very seriously: “We went to English classes with Angel Di María and we killed each other with laughter.
“Afterwards we did not go to those classes anymore and they started fining us because they were already paying.”
Asked about potentially returning to Argentine football one day, Rojo said: “I would like to play at Estudiantes again.”
