Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes Ledley King was one of the best defenders in the game when they played together with the North London side. King is often viewed as one of the best English central defenders of his generation, but his career was hampered by injury.

Jenas was asked by FourFourTwo to select his best eleven of his former teammates, and King made the cut alongside ex Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand. Jenas said around that period there were a lot of special defenders, and King fell into their bracket.

Jenas believes if King had managed to avoid the injuries he picked up throughout his career then he may have become the best of them all because he had everything.

“There were some special centre-halves around when I played, but he’d have been the best of the lot if he could have sustained his fitness. He just had everything – including two great feet,” said the BBC Pundit on his former Tottenham teammate.

King spent 13 seasons with Tottenham, but made just over 250 appearances during that period. His injuries also restricted his number of games for England, and in a 10-year period he only represented his country on 21 occasions.
