Thursday’s edition of Portuguese newspaper Record said Adrien Silva was set to lose the Sporting captaincy after his move to Leicester City failed.
Sporting put their foot down and Leicester were unable to agree a fee to complete the transfer. There was much anger on both sides, with Sporting escalating the matter by releasing an official statement which hyped things up further.
Record believe that under those circumstances, Adrien was set to have the armband taken away from him.
That’s not now going to happen. Everyone has cooled down a little further, and O Jogo on Friday quote Sporting manager Jorge Jesus as saying: “One thing is the desire, another is the obligation and he has to honour the jersey.
“It is perfectly legitimate to seek to improve your conditions, but it turned out not to be achieved. He has assured that he will continue to be focused and dedicated to Sporting as ever and that is very good, so I think he deserves to continue to wear the captain’s armband, nothing should change.”
