If there’s one thing West Ham did right in the transfer of Sofiane Feghouli, it’s managing to get just under £4m in profit for him, having picked him up on a free from Valencia in La Liga.
The Algeria international spent just one season with the Hammers under Slaven Bilic, during which he barely played, making 27 appearances in all competitions, of which 16 came from the bench.
Scoring four goals and picking up three assists in that time, the now 28-year-old was eventually sold to Galatasaray in Turkey, where he helped the club win the Turkish league last season.
However, since then, things have gone slightly downhill, starting just three games in the league, which the player has no explanation for, as he told France Football in an interview on Friday.
During said sit-down, the forward was also invited to comment on his career so far, where he briefly discussed his time at West Ham.
He said: “I’m happy about my career. In England, with the manager I had there, I didn’t have the chance to play. I wanted to see what it was like. I left. Galatasaray offered me a good project. They insisted. I was getting at an age where I wanted to win titles.”
That year, West Ham finished 11th in the league, dropping four places down from their previous season finish, which was their best since the 2001-02 season.
Even if things aren’t going to plan in Turkey, Feghouli is adamant he doesn’t regret his choice.
