Facing the press on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League game against Juventus, José Mourinho explained Alexis Sanchez, who came on for the last five minutes against Chelsea at the weekend, wouldn’t be in his squad for the game.
This was revealed by the club’s Twitter account, but no further details were given, suggesting it could be anything from an injury to a simple tactical choice.
However, Christian Martin, a journalist for Fox Sports Latin America, took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to give information he’d received ‘first hand’ about the situation.
Alex Sanchez apparently returned from the international break with a ‘pulled groin muscle’, tried it on Monday morning and ‘it hurt’.
That’s why the Chile international wasn’t there for the 15 minutes of the training session open to the media, and Martin went on to question why Mourinho didn’t clarify the whole thing during his press conference.
Normally we wouldn’t go all in with this, but at this point, it’s fair to say what the journalist is most likely correct since Sanchez’s agent, Fernando Felicevich, retweeted the information on his own account.
As RMC Sport reported earlier in the day, expect Anthony Martial to once again start for Manchester United on Tuesday against Juventus.
