Simon Mignolet is not a happy goalkeeper.
The Belgian is frustrated at Liverpool and the club’s reluctance to let him leave the club this summer, reports HLN on Monday.
Mignolet’s situation has been covered in Belgium for some time and it was thought regardless of Jurgen Klopp signing a goalkeeper or not in the summer market, that an exit was required.
Klopp had made his preference for Loris Karius very clear and even if nobody came in, Mignolet didn’t want to be the spare part to fall back on temporarily when the German malfunctioned.
HLN state Karius leaving for Besiktas, on a two year loan, has made no difference to Mignolet, he still wants to leave and would prefer it was ‘today rather than tomorrow’, signalling his urgency.
However, Anfield’s transfer chiefs are holding firm because Klopp needs a good standard substitute for Brazilian Alisson.
It’s claimed Liverpool’s €12m asking price was too high, and Mignolet added: “I also had different options to leave on a loan basis, but for some reason that was not possible, and I find it strange that a goalkeeper who had a preference last year over me may have a loan.”
He’s probably got a point.
