Juan Mata’s future at Manchester United looked uncertain after Jose Mourinho’s appointment, but the Spaniard started in the first league game of the season and also found the back of the net.

Reports in the media continue to link Mata with a move away from Old Trafford, but Mourinho has insisted to reporters that he has faith in the 28 year old and his future at Old Trafford.

Mata has been linked with a move to Merseyside with Everton apparently interested in his services, but reports in the Spanish media suggest he could return to his former club Valencia.

According to Spanish website Plaza Deportiva, Valencia’s owner Peter Lim met with Manchester United executives last Saturday in England to explore the possibility of signing Juan Mata.

Lim believes it’s be almost impossible for Valencia to sign Mata on a permanent deal, but a loan deal is feasible if Manchester United agree to pay a large part of his wages.

Frankly, it’s a bit difficult to see Juan Mata leaving so late in the transfer window unless any club comes up with an eye watering offer.
