Despite all the talk surrounding Everton’s interest in Sunderland’s Lamine Koné, it appears that Younes Kaboul could be the centre-back the Black Cats let go.

Not wanting to lose the ex-Lorient star who was so vital to them in their bid to avoid relegation last season, David Moyes’ new side have agreed a fee with Watford over the former Tottenham defender.

According to Nabil Djellit, a journalist for France Football, on Twitter, both clubs have reached an agreement over the Frenchman’s transfer, but no fee is mentioned.

The Southern club’s interest had been widely reported by the English press a couple of days ago, and it appears things have developed considerably since then.

Kaboul, who arrived from Tottenham last season, made 23 appearances for Sunderland last season, picking up on assist in the process.

The 30-year-old also played the first game of the new competition last weekend, as David Moyes’ started their campaign with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
