During the January transfer window the Daily Mail linked Leicester City with Daniel Opare of Augsburg. It was claimed the Foxes had made contact over a potential transfer, which priced the fullback at £3m.
Other clubs were also linked with the Augsburg player but nothing came of it and he remains with the German side.
The only option for a move now, and for Augsburg to stop a free transfer if their player won’t renew, is a transfer to a league where the window remains open, such as Russia.
Bild report Opare is now being forced to train alone, after the German newspaper photographed him in talks with Schalke officials. It’s fair to say relations aren’t great between Opare and his club, and a free transfer looks a real possibility.
The defender can now talk with other clubs and even sign an agreement to arrive in the summer as a free agent.
That gives Leicester City a chance to get their £3m transfer target for absolutely nothing… as long as he doesn’t end up somewhere like Russia before then.
Daniel Opare is 27 years of age, and a right footer whose main position is right back, although he can also play on the left.
