Incoming Brighton and Hove Albion striker Deniz Undav has shared his excitement at the prospect of coming up against Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk next season.
Undav is set to move to Brighton in the summer after agreeing a £6.3m move from Union SG in the January transfer window.
The striker will arrive in England full of confidence after a campaign which has seen him score 26 goals and register 13 assists in 37 games in all competitions so far.
Those numbers mean he is in the top ten goalscorers in Europe, while only the likes of Karim Benzema, Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe have been involved in more goals in the top ten leagues in Europe.
To put that into context, he’s scored more goals than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, a player he will be hoping to battle with in the goalscoring charts next season.
It seems, though, he is not the Reds star that Undav is looking forward to coming up against when he eventually arrives at Brighton.
“I feel more joy than satisfaction,” he told SportBILD.
“After I signed the contract with Brighton, I thought: ‘Wow, wow, wow!’ Soon I’ll be playing in arguably the best league in the world.
“I don’t think many people would have thought I could do that on my way. But only when I’ve made my mark there will I be able to say I’ve done great things.
“I’m looking forward to the duels with top defenders like Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk. My motivation is to prove myself at the highest level against the greatest footballers. But first, I want to make history with Union.”
