Jamie Carragher believes that Nottingham Forest could be looking at Oliver Glasner leaving by the next international break, just because of their owner.
Glasner was brought in by Evangelos Marinakis in the summer after announcing his decision to leave Crystal Palace.
Marinakis hired the Austrian thanks to his time at Selhurst Park, where he won both the FA Cup and the Europa Conference League during his time in charge.
Glasner had initially entered the summer eyeing some of the big jobs in Europe. But he was eventually convinced to take the job by a personal pitch in Greece by Marinakis.
Indeed, he recently admitted that it was the show of ambition at Nottingham Forest that convinced him on the job.
“The goal is not so much to annoy the big ones, but our goal is to get closer to the big ones in order to become a big one again and again,” he said earlier this month.
“Now we also have to be so realistic but here you can see the ambitions. So, the club has now got the okay to expanded the stadium in the first step to 45,000. (That’s important) because with 30,000 it’s difficult to play with the really big names in the league.
“And that all has to go step by step,” he added.
“We have to create the conditions in the organisation, of course also in the team. I don’t know if we can ever get as big as Man United or Arsenal now or Liverpool, but why shouldn’t it be possible to become like Aston Villa, who always sniff at the Champions League.”
Tough start at Nottingham Forest
Life at Forest has not been easy for Glasner so far, though. His side currently sit in the bottom three with just one win in seven games so far. They’ve lost four of those games and have lost their last three in the league consecutively.
That means the pressure is on already. Marinakis is certainly not the type of manager to hang around when it comes to managers.
He’s sacked 25 managers over his 16 years as a multi-club football owner. The 25th came just a month ago at Olympiakos. He’s sacked ten at Nottingham Forest alone and saw off three last season as Forest battled relegation.
And Carragher believes that it would not be surprising if Glasner is removed from his position in the coming months.
“Nottingham Forest won’t get relegated I know they’re in the bottom three right now. They were really good yesterday (vs Arsenal), I watched the game,” he told Sky Austria.
“Even when Arsenal scored, after that Nottingham Forest had two or three really good chances and should have gotten an equaliser. They played really well at Anfield and were unlucky not to win that game.
“The only problem Glasner has is who the owner is. Now the owner is very quick to change managers, you wouldn’t be surprised if in the international break or maybe around Christmas they change manager.
“Not because Glasner has been terrible but because it almost feels like at Nottingham Forest you have to be really good as a manager to keep your job there. He’s not shy in changing it.”
Determined to win trophies

Carragher does, however, believe that Glasner will produce what Nottingham Forest want if he is given time to establish himself.
“The reason he’s brought him in is that Glasner has an amazing ability to win trophies for teams that people don’t expect it (from),” he added.
“So, if you’re Nottingham Forest, your owner is ‘I just don’t accept being a team who sits in the middle of the table or fights to stay in the league, we want more than that, my ambition is to bring trophies back’.
“What he’s done at Crystal Palace is just like the greatest moment in their history. It will never be repeated again probably at Crystal Palace, what he’s done. And that’s what Forest want.
“It’s just probably important that the owner gives him the opportunity to do what he normally does. At Frankfurt he had great success in the past and that’s why Palace brought him in. I think if he’s given enough time he can take Forest to a trophy.”
