Wolves haven’t given up on Dereck Moncada despite losing him to FC Lugano in the summer window.
That’s according to 4-4-2.ch, who states Wolves still have the forward on their radar.
Wolves official travelled for Moncada
In May, FC Lugano reached an agreement with Internacional de Bogotá for the 18-year-old. Prior to that, Wolves showed keen interest.
His rapid development has seen him make debut for Honduras’ senior team in 2025. During the March international break, La Bicolor had friendlies in Spain.
Wolves head of scouting Ben Wrigglesworth then made a trip to Spain to watch him live in action. He was pictured with the player’s grandfather, Mario Moncada.
Later that month, Internacional de Bogotá manager Ricardo Valiño revealed the player was learning English. The Molineux club dropped out of the Premier League while Dereck Moncada joined the Swiss club.
Wolves haven’t given up
The Honduran’s preferred role is on the right wing and can operate across the front three.
At Lugano, Dereck Moncada has operated as a striker, managing five goals and an assist from 508 minutes from 13 matches.
4-4-2.ch now points out about César Peixoto’s side missing out on the versatile attacker.
Despite this, Wolves are still keeping a close watch on him. His former club, Necaxa, are also monitoring the player. They share the same owner as Internacional de Bogotá and know him and his qualities very well.
For now, Wolves and the Mexican club are following Moncada and haven’t held concrete talks with either his camp or Lugano.
Moncada has a contract until 2031 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is now €2.5m. The Swiss club’s aim is to collect more than €10m when they decide to sell him. It’s unclear whether that will be in January or next summer.
Wolves’ chances of securing his services may improve with promotion to the Premier League. The Championship side are now ninth in the table, trailing leaders Swansea City by three points.
