Nayef Aguerd is ‘keeping an eye’ on his future, with Graham Potter’s arrival at West Ham United potentially changing what happens to him.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who report that Aguerd’s future is ‘heating up’ and Potter’s arrival could change Aguerd’s decision about his future.
The defender is currently on loan at Real Sociedad, joining in the summer when it was made clear that he was not a part of Julen Lopetegui’s plans.
He’s impressed at the Spanish club so far, establishing himself as their defensive leader and a key player for manager Imanol Alguacil.
Both parties would likely be interested in a permanent deal being done with West Ham in the summer, but Estadio say Potter’s arrival could change that.
At the moment it will be Potter who decides whether he wants the defender or not, but Aguerd could also change his plans. He wanted to leave West Ham because he was not in Lopetegui’s plans but if Potter has a different idea, then he could think again.
For now, he is ‘very comfortable’ in Spain and ‘would be delighted’ if he were able to continue with the txuri-urdin beyond this season. He has a contract with West Ham until 2027, though, so his future is very much in their and Potter’s hands.
