Liverpool were able to confirm Jeremie Frimpong’s signing at the end of May, allowing the 24-year-old to go on holiday with his future already sorted out.
The pursuit of the player during his final months at Bayer Leverkusen had been one going on behind the scenes and it certainly didn’t appear difficult for Liverpool to convince the fullback to sign for them over other options.
Getting Frimpong in first may well have helped Liverpool’s pursuit of his Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz. The pair had been close at the German club and them both arriving into Arne Slot’s squad in the same summer will certainly be a help for quick adaptation.
Frimpong has now been speaking to Sky Deutschland, and explained how happy he is to be joined by his friend and colleague at Liverpool. The defender also explained he’s got big plans for his time at Anfield, and that includes winning trophies.
Florian Plettenberg quotes him as saying: “Now that it’s official, it’s the best feeling. When I first came to Leverkusen, Flo was the one that took me in. Now we’re doing it all over again – so it’s good.
“I’ve been in Leverkusen for four and a half years, and I won everything. I won the Pokal. I won the Super Cup. I won the Bundesliga. So I wanted a new challenge. With Celtic, I won the treble. With Leverkusen, the double. So in Liverpool, I also want to win trophies.”
