German newspaper Bild reports impatience is building around Miron Muslić’s Schalke as the 2.Bundesliga club prepare for the new season.
The manager was only recently secured after his Plymouth Argyle clause was activated, and as would expected at nervy Schalke there’s already been suspicion about his intentions, given how he left the now League One club.
Last week he was questioned about also having an exit clause in his Schalke contract, something he suggested wasn’t actually his idea.
Schalke start their pre-season fixtures at the beginning of July and it’s felt they need to get some signings in. Muslić’s new side remains one of the biggest clubs in Germany, averaging more than 61k spectators per home game despite being in the second division.
They finished 14th last season, and despite that there will be expectations of a promotion battle in the coming campaign. Their new manager wants to use a player he had at Plymouth Argyle to help them achieve that.
Bild report Schalke are working to sign Nikola Katic from FC Zurich, after he impressed Muslić at Plymouth Argyle, having arrived on loan for the second half of last season.
They want to pay less than €500k and sports director Frank Baumann is quoted as saying: “We would like to sign Nikola, but not at any price. Of course, we also have a plan B.”
