There’s now quite a Spanish consensus that West Ham have made a late move to try and wreck Borja Iglesias’s transfer from Espanyol to Real Betis.
This had been predicted as a possible issue for Betis earlier this week, with there being suggestions in Spain that the Hammers could arrive and cause them the same kind of problems they did for Valencia over Maxi Gomez.
Mundo Deportivo, AS and now Marca have all pulled West Ham into the situation.
The Seville club don’t want to pay Borja’s €28m release clause in one go and are currently in negotiations with Espanyol to try and come to an agreement.
Therefore, it’s very useful for Espanyol to have West Ham in the picture, putting pressure on Betis to act quickly and come up with a better deal.
And given this has all been pushed out to the Spanish media in tandem, West Ham may be being used as a tool.
