West Ham asked Flamengo about Gonzalo Plata for the January window, but the Brazilian club have now given their answer. According to Bolavip, Flamengo manager Filipe Luís has vetoed any possibility of a move.
The Hammers explored the conditions for a deal after Plata’s name circulated in Brazil as a possible departure. Bournemouth and Leeds United also made enquiries, but West Ham appeared among the first clubs to act.
However, Bolavip reports that Flamengo will not negotiate the winger in the next window. Filipe Luís still sees him as an important part of the squad, even after a run of controversial red cards.
Plata keeps strong support inside the coaching staff. As a result, any transfer talk has been pushed aside for now. Flamengo’s stance is clear: they plan to keep him for 2026.
The Ecuadorian has played 63 matches for Flamengo, with seven goals and 10 assists. He has added five goals and nine assists in 46 games this season.
Plata plays mainly on the right, cutting inside on his left foot, and uses pace and tight dribbling to attack defenders. He can also switch flanks when needed and offers depth with his passing and crosses to the far post.
English clubs continue to monitor his case, but the decision from Rio leaves little room for movement. The next steps will depend on whether Flamengo soften their position later in the window, yet for now the door remains closed.
