Brentford’s Mathias Jørgensen, better known as Zanka, has been restricted to less than 1000 minutes of action in the league from 16 appearances this season.
The centre-back has had to settle for a place on the bench in this calendar year and has made only four league appearances. This has also led to concerns over his future with the Bees after this season.
He played the full 90 minutes in Brentford’s defeat to Liverpool at the weekend. After the tie, Brentford manager Thomas Frank gave an update on the 33-year-old’s contract situation, during an interview with Viaplay, relayed by Tipsbladet.
“There is an ongoing dialogue with Zanka about the future. We will see what we end up with. But we have been very pleased with his performance in the two years that he has been here,” he said.
Last August, the Denmark international signed a new deal until the end of this season and Brentford have an option to further extend it by a year.
Meanwhile, Brentford have already announced Pontus Jansson will leave them for Malmö FF after this season.
According to Tipsbladet, his exit would free up space for Jørgensen to have more minutes next season and also sign a new deal with the Premier League side.
There should be better clarity on this case in the coming weeks.
