Celta Vigo sporting director Marco Garcés confirms Wolves refused to release Fer López in the summer window.
On Friday, the official spoke to the media local to the club to review the La Liga side’s summer business.
Saturday’s edition of Faro de Vigo have relayed his comments and also share their own updates on Celta’s failure to sign the Wolves player.
Interest in Wolves man already known
The 22-year-old graduated from the Spanish club’s academy and starred for their first team.
This convinced Wolves to sign him for around €25m in June 2025, and his sale had helped them balance their books. The move didn’t work out well for the attacking midfielder, and he returned to Celta Vigo on loan in January.
Since returning, Fer López enjoyed regular minutes as he managed two goals and three assists from 1,432 minutes from 23 matches.
This convinced them to extend his stay in the summer. In May, Celta Vigo coach Claudio Giráldez went public over his desire to bring back.
Wolves blocked player’s exit
Last month, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain explaining that the English club consider him a key part of their plans this season. César Peixoto has played a part in their decision to retain him.
Jorge Mendes, who has close ties with the Championship side, represents Fer López.

Faro de Vigo now reports the Spanish club made repeated attempts to negotiate with Wolves via his representative.
However, they didn’t succeed in the summer window.
“We really tried, but Wolverhampton shut us out. They never gave us an offer. They simply wanted him there, and seeing how he’s playing, you understand why,” he said.
Peixoto, who arrived at Molineux in July, has regularly utilised the player this season.
The decision to keep him has paid off so far as López has three goals and two assists from six matches for the English club.
