Barcelona forward Memphis Depay ‘has been offered’ to Newcastle United and they are keen on the Dutchman.

That’s according to Sport, who say that the Magpies are ‘very interested’ in a deal for the Dutch striker after exploring a possible deal in the summer transfer window.

The newspaper explains that Barcelona are looking to move Depay on in January as his contract ends next summer and this is the last opportunity to get money for him.

They need to make sales to free up capacity in their budget to meet La Liga’s Financial Fair Play limits and thus make signings to improve Xavi’s squad.

He is considered a saleable asset and his entourage ‘already knows’ that he is on the market and Barcelona would ‘welcome a sale’ if it can be made into a reality.

Newcastle are the latest club to which the player ‘has been offered’ and the Premier League side are ‘very interested’ in acquiring his services.

They wanted to sign the Dutch striker in the summer, but the three parties could not reach an agreement at that point.

That’s not dispelled the interest from St James’ Park, though, and representatives for the Magpies ‘will try to convince’ the player on the move, as he has been very reluctant to leave the Nou Camp in the winter transfer window.

Barcelona are looking for a figure between €10-15m, but Depay would prefer to leave on a free as it means he can negotiate for the same salary he earns in Catalunya or ‘even exceed it’.

Newcastle ‘could convince’ him, though, as they are a club with financial muscle and are aiming to break into the Premier League elite sooner rather than later.
