Watford signed James Abankwah on loan from Udinese in the winter transfer window.

Since his move to the London club, the defender has played 12 Championship games and has become an important part of the side.

It now seems as if his performances at Watford have firmly caught the attention of Udinese. Messaggero Veneto, as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, have reported about his future today.

They state that Abankwah could become a key player for the Italian side next season. They are keeping a close eye on the fact that the 21-year-old has been called up to Ireland national team because of his good performances at Watford.

His loan stint at the Hornets expires in the summer and he is now expected to bolster Udinese’s first-team and give them a vital option in the backline from next season onwards.

At the Friulian club in the first half of the season, Abankwah played 89 minutes in Serie A and it was clear that he needed a loan away from the club.

Watford have helped him develop into a player and as of now, they do not have an option to keep the Irishman permanently.
