On July 24th, Corriere dello Sport reported Liverpool have initiated contacted over a move for Parma’s Giovanni Leoni this summer.
Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest, while AC Milan have joined their rival and Liverpool in the transfer race.
That’s according to Tuttosport, relayed by FcInterNews, and they cover the latest on the two Milan clubs and Liverpool.
The Nerazzurri aren’t willing to abandon their pursuit of the centre-back and don’t seem to be concerned about Milan’s interest.
That’s because Massimiliano Allegri favours Fiorentina’s Pietro Comuzzo over Leoni, and the positive talks that Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio held with the Parma player’s agent in July.
Tuttosport warn the Italian clubs to ‘watch out for Liverpool’ as the Reds are ‘really serious about’ Leoni.
Parma Live relay claims made elsewhere about Milan and then provide their own take on the 18-year-old. They point out the young defender is coveted by top clubs in Italy and abroad.
It’s claimed that among the clubs that have expressed interest in Leoni, Liverpool are ‘in pole position’.
Arne Slot’s side could make an approach for him if they fail to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi. The outlet reports Parma have set a €40m price for Leoni.
Whether Liverpool have genuine interest or if Parma are using them to put pressure on Italian clubs to meet their demand remains to be seen.
