Goalkeeper Joel Robles had admitted he has been “surprised for the better” by life in Saudi Arabia after moving to the country from Leeds United this summer.

That Spaniard has been speaking to El Desmarque regarding his move to Saudi Arabia, where he plays for Al-Qadsiah in the second division.

The goalkeeper made the move to the country, alongside the plethora of other players to do so, this summer after he left Leeds on a free transfer.

He had been at Elland Road since August 2022 when he returned to England after leaving Real Betis on a free transfer.

His move to Saudi is the latest in a varied career that has seen him flitting between England and Spain for the majority of it, playing for the likes of Atletico Madrid, Wigan, Everton, Betis and then Leeds.

The move to the Middle Eastern country is certainly a complete change from what he is used to then, but he has been pleasantly surprised by what he’s encountered.

“In general, there is no type of problem,” he said.

“Nobody says anything to you or looks at you strangely. The truth is that I am very happy, this country has surprised for the better.”
