Despite the announcement that Tottenham were letting Clément Lenglet return to Barcelona, the Premier League side haven’t given up on signing him.
That’s according to Sport, who claim that both Spurs and the La Liga side are ‘convinced’ that a transfer agreement ‘will eventually be reached’ for the Frenchman.
While there has was a meeting planned, it has been ‘postponed’ for a few days, but both sides are clear that something can be done before June 30th, which Barcelona are requesting.
However, it’s worth pointing out that Tottenham’s offer ‘will be low’, with it stated it will be ‘around €5m’ for the transfer, but with the commitment of taking on all his wages.
Tottenham have ‘made the decision to keep’ the player after his initial loan, as they are ‘very satisfied’ with his performance, and they are willing to reach an agreement with the centre-back, ‘giving him a long-contract’ to take on his current €10m net/year at Barcelona.
That’s why the transfer fee needs to be low ‘for the numbers to add up’, and while the Spaniards initially wanted €12m for him, they are ‘forced to go down’.
What will work in their favour is that they will ‘keep a high percentage of a future sale of the player’.
As for Lenglet himself, he is ‘delighted with the possibility of continuing’ at Tottenham.
