Even though most of the mentions to Tottenham Hotspur in the European media today are about their Champions League elimination to Milan and the future of Antonio Conte, we also get to see an interesting transfer rumour coming from the Portuguese press.
As newspaper Jornal de Notícias writes about a couple of Porto news, they say Spurs are one of the candidates to sign Diogo Costa from the Dragons next summer.
It’s said that the goalkeeper’s performances in the world cup ‘reawakened’ the interest from English clubs in his signing.
One of them are Manchester United, who’ve been linked to the player for a while, and the other are Tottenham.
It’s said Spurs see Costa as the ‘ideal solution’ to replace Hugo Lloris from the 2023/24 season onwards, which is something they really need to address this summer.
Jornal de Notícias just doesn’t make it very clear if there are contacts from Tottenham for the signing yet.
They just point out that the goalkeeper’s contract with Porto runs until 2027, and he has a release clause worth €75m.
In case the two clubs compete for his transfer, then it’s likely the price gets close to that amount.
