We carried a report from Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday, who claimed Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele rejected the opportunity to join Inter Milan after failing to find a financial agreement.
It was also claimed the Nerazzurri were even negotiating with the Premier League club for the Belgium international.
Calciomercato reports the Serie A club’s director of football, Piero Ausilio had offered Joao Mario to Tottenham, when they were negotiating for Dembele. Mauricio Pochettino’s side turned down the opportunity to sign the former Benfica man, who is no longer included in Luciano Spalletti’s plans at San Siro.
Newly promoted Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers also made initial inquiries about the 25-year-old. However, even that interest vanished and Inter’s hope of selling their player to a club in the Premier League have ended in a disappointment.
The Portuguese international spent the second half of the last season on loan at West Ham United, but they didn’t take up an option to buy him.
Earlier in June, the 25-year-old admitted that he didn’t want to return to Italy, which resulted in a poor reception from a large section of Inter fans when Mario enteredt the pitch as a substitute in his side’s friendly win over Lyon on Saturday.
