Liverpool invested €75m excluding bonuses to buy Darwin Núñez from Benfica in 2022.
The Uruguay international has scored 40 goals and registered 26 assists from 138 games for the Reds so far.
Tuesday’s edition of A Bola states the Eagles have received €10m of a potential €25m as bonuses from his sale to Liverpool.
Liverpool first paid €5m in bonuses when the striker started 10 games in the league and the Champions League. The remaining €5m was activated when he made 25 starts in the two competitions.
Arne Slot’s side have to pay another €5m to Benfica if he were to make another 25 starts in the aforementioned competitions. The newspaper states at this point in time, he is one short of making another 25 starts for Liverpool.
Benfica will receive €5m if Núñez were to start in any of Liverpool’s remaining five matches this season. He hasn’t started for the Merseyside club since their win over Southampton in March.
A Bola state the Primeira Liga side fear the South American may not start this season so that the €5m bonus clause isn’t activated. Liverpool could save money, considering Núñez could leave in the summer window.
