Southampton failed to move on Kamaldeen Sulemana due to issues around submission of documentation at the end of the window, but they have managed to get another late deal over the line.
Samuel Edozie is the player in question and De Standaard reports on the player’s move to Belgian club Anderlecht.
Edozie will join Anderlecht on loan and it’s now been reported the Belgian Pro League side will pay a large part of his Southampton salary, with Saints saving about €1.2m for the season because of the 21-year-old’s exit.
That’s seen as something noteworthy by De Standard, and they appear surprised that Anderlecht would be paying a big chunk of the wages.
Edozie has been registered for Anderlecht’s Europa League squad and that can help Southampton in two ways. Firstly, it’ll give the youngster some European experience, and secondly it could drum up transfer interest if the Premier League club don’t see a long term future with them.
Edozie has played two games in the Premier League so far for the Saints but wasn’t in the squad in their most recent clash against Brentford.
There’s no purchase option in the loan deal.
