Southampton are one of four sides to have expressed an interest in Bahia defender Santiago Ramos Mingo.
That’s according to Sport, who cover the defender today. They report that Southampton are one of four European sides interest in the 24-year-old.
The newspaper states that, thanks to his strong performances in Brazil, Minga is being targeted by clubs around the world. Mingo joined Bahia in January this year after spells with Boca Juniors, Barcelona B, OH Leuven and Defensa.
He’s been impressing and the Argentine’s name is now being mentioned on the transfer market. He’s considered one of the best centre-backs in South American football and a move to a bigger club is looking likely. In fact, a move in January is not out of the question.
According to Sport, Southampton and Lyon made enquiries in the summer, while PSV Eindhoven and Besiktas have expressed interest for January. The Turkish club are particularly keen on him.
They have all taken note of his speed in duels, skill on the ball, youth and the significant room for improvement that he possesses. These all make him a very attractive option for the European clubs.
There’s no mention of an asking price at this point. Bahia will undoubtedly want a profit on the €4.35m they paid at the beginning of the year.
