Newcastle United have cooled their interest in Rayan after reassessing the financial demands involved in a potential move for the Vasco forward.

While the Premier League club have the resources to invest heavily and continue to track young Brazilian talent, the current conditions around the 19-year-old have prompted caution.

According to ESPN Brazil, Newcastle United have monitored Rayan in recent weeks as part of a broader strategy focused on future prospects. However, the report makes clear that this does not translate into an imminent bid.

The main factor behind the hesitation is the player’s price, which increased significantly following his recent contract renewal.

On 12 December, Rayan signed a new deal with Vasco running until 2028. The agreement includes a release clause of €80m.

Newcastle United reportedly consider that figure too high for a player of his age, especially one who would not necessarily arrive as an immediate difference-maker. Internally, the club prefer to reserve that level of investment for a major signing with instant impact.

While Newcastle step back, other Premier League clubs are moving in the opposite direction. ESPN reported earlier this week that Crystal Palace have already initiated contact with Vasco and are assessing whether to submit a formal offer.

Their strategy would involve planning a deal now but completing a transfer only in June 2026, during the European summer window. Also, he is represented by Pini Zahavi, a well-connected figure within the Premier League.

On the pitch, the forward continues to deliver. In 2025, he has scored 22 goals and provided two assists across spells with Vasco and Brazil’s under-20 side, further underlining why English clubs continue to monitor his situation closely.

Despite the claims, it’s likely a deal is possible at less than €80m, so Newcastle United may still be watching the situation.
