Two days ago, we covered claims from Spain and Colombia that Sporting de Gijón have registered interest in Rangers’ Óscar Cortés. It was also said Russell Martin’s side are open to letting him leave late in this window.
On Saturday, El Comercio and La Voz de Asturias both explained the Spanish club have made a significant progress in their negotiations with Rangers for the winger’s loan move.
La Nueva España, a newspaper local to the Spanish club, provides the latest on their pursuit of the Rangers player.
On Saturday, Sporting de Gijón reached an agreement with the Scottish club to sign the 21-year-old on loan without an option or obligation to buy.
The report adds the Colombia international is expected to travel to Gijón in the ‘next few hours’ to carry out medical tests and complete other formalities to join the Segunda División club.
Sporting de Gijón initially targeted FK RFS’ Lasha Odisharia for the wide position, but the negotiations for him stalled. Therefore, they immediately shifted their focus on Cortés and have reached an agreement with Rangers.
Cortés joined Rangers on loan from RC Lens in January 2024 and Ibrox stay was made permanent this summer. He struggled with fitness concerns in Glasgow, restricting his game time in the process.
