Rangers’ Óscar Cortés has emerged as a late target for Sporting de Gijón, who have made first contact with Russell Martin’s side.
On Friday, Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra reported the Spanish club have registered a formal interest in the winger with Rangers. He also stated Russell Martin’s side are open to letting him leave this summer.
They have identified FK RFS’ Lasha Odisharia as the target for the wide position. That’s according to El Comercio, and they report this operation has been frozen.
Sporting de Gijón want to finalise a deal for a winger before Monday’s deadline and their focus is now on the Rangers player.
They are said to be closer to signing the 21-year-old and will resume contact with the Scottish club today. This will be done to try and finalise his loan transfer soon.
La Voz de Asturias also cover the Segunda División club’s ongoing pursuit of Cortés, who is close to joining them.
It’s claimed Sporting de Gijón made ‘significant progress’ on Friday in their negotiations to secure the Colombia international’s services.
The intention of Cortés’ entourage is for him to travel to Gijón soon to avoid rushing as we get closer to Monday’s deadline. For this to happen, the Spanish club will need a quick resolution with Rangers.
