Troyes talent Sankhoun Diawara has been linked with a move to Rangers, but a deal may not be easy.
The 20-year-old became a first-team player for the French side in the 2025/26 season. He played 14 times in Ligue 2, starting each of the last 13 Ligue 2 games. As well as playing at centre-back, he filled in well at left-back too.
This month, Sport Witness have covered the defender’s situation. There has been optimism that a move to Rangers is gathering pace, with the Scottish club having presented an ambitious project to the player.
AC Milan have provided competition and more is emerging about the situation.
Rangers project can hold the key
Journalist Daniele Longo reports about on talent in his latest Youtube video. He confirmed Milan are keen on Diawara and are ‘seriously considering’ making a formal move.
Rangers’ approach is proving to be a problem. The Glasgow club are offering him the chance to play first-team football right away. This may not be the same for Milan, who would rather have him in their U23s side before he makes the jump to the first-team.
Despite that, the player is yet to make a final decision. Longo clarifies that ‘negotiations are progressing quite quickly’ for the Rossoneri.
Carlo Pellegatti has similar information but describes Diawara as someone who can surprise many.
He said on his Youtube channel – via MilanNews: “Clearly, the leap between a Ligue 2 team and Milan is high, but it’s been said that Milan could sign him for the future, although those who know him well say be careful because he’ll be a player who will surprise you.
“However, there’s competition from Rangers for the player. Milan are trying to get involved in this negotiation in order to sign him.”
Our take: Rangers move makes more sense
In recent years, Milan have done better with youth. Even if their products have not made it to the Rossoneri first-team, they’ve had big opportunities at other clubs. Mattia Liberali is a good example, and he joined Como recently.
While that is a good sign for Diawara, Milan already have a young, left-sided defender in Davide Bartesaghi in their squad. This might stop Diawara from making it at Milan, which makes Rangers a better opportunity.
The Scottish side need a defensive signing and the talent will fix an obvious hole in the squad.
