Leeds United‘s Maximilian Wöber is closing in on a rapid move to Schalke.
The Bundesliga newcomers have been looking to improve their defence this summer and have set their sights on the centre-back.
Schalke already made concrete advances to bring the Leeds United player to the club.
Player on verge of leaving Leeds United
The Austria international returned to Elland Road after a loan spell at Werder Bremen. Last season, he made only three appearances for the German club due to injuries.
Maximilian Wöber has less than a year left on his contract at Elland Road. Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that he wants to leave Leeds United and is looking for the ‘right challenge’.
Bild report he has decided to join Schalke, who are currently have a pre-season camp in Austria.
The defender has already travelled to their training camp, and completed his medical tests on Wednesday morning.
Leeds United man’s medical backed up
Sky Austria are also reporting the Whites player has completed his Schalke medical even though the two clubs haven’t found an agreement.
They add final talks between Daniel Farke’s side and the German club are ongoing.
Both Bild and Sky Austria don’t mention the fee or transfer formula, and Sky Deutschland provides more on that.
According to Sky Deutschland, the 28-year-old will terminate his contract with the English club. The final talks are ongoing regarding this.
After Maximilian Wöber cleared his medical examinations, Leeds United’s final decision is pending.
Transfermarkt value Wöber at €3m and terminating his contract will allow the Whites to save on his final year’s salary.
The Austrian fits the profile Schalke were looking for in this market, if he can remain fit.
