Crysencio Summerville is set for further medical examinations in the coming days, looking for a definitive answer on his hamstring injury.

That’s according to Voetbal Primeur. The Dutch website contradicts reports about the extent of Summerville’s injury today.

Reports from England have suggested that the West Ham star is set for an extended spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury picked up over the weekend.

Initial reports indicated a week long absence, with fears that the 24-year-old could be out for longer after months lost with a serious hamstring injury last season.

Report premature

Voetbal Primeur, though, say otherwise. According to their information, the English reports about the West Ham star are ‘premature’.

The website reports that the injury is less serious than described. In fact, a potential first call-up to the Dutch national team is not yet absolutely ruled out.

Voetbal Primeur have made inquiries and the damage, to his calf, is ‘less severe’ than expected. Further medical examinations have been planned to provide a definitive answer.

Summerville, for his part, is already working hard on his rehabilitation. That would suggest the injury is not as bad as first feared. His intention is to return to action on Sunday, March 22nd against Aston Villa. The Netherlands’ friendly fixtures follow that.

Netherlands chance

The West Ham star appeared destined for that squad after his performances over the last few months. He has five goals and one assist in 10 games across all competitions, almost singlehandedly driving West Ham towards safety.

That had caught Ronald Koeman’s eye. Indeed, he commented recently that Summerville was on his radar.

“A player who plays in the Premier League, is important at West Ham and can play on both the left and right, we are looking at that closely,” he said last Sunday on ESPN’s Goedemorgen Eredivisie.

Now, it seems he’ll have a chance of getting his shot. In the Netherlands, at least, they’re insisting that his injury won’t cause as long a lay off as first feared.
