On May 26th, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg reported Wolverhampton Wanderers are in the picture to sign Tochi Chukwuani. He also stated the 22-year-old aims to leave Sturm Graz this summer.
This report surfaced days after claims elsewhere stated Wolves, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and several other French clubs are showing interest in the Dane.
The midfielder is currently with the Denmark U21 squad at U21 Euros and Bold had a chat with him about his future.
They asked Chukwuani about his views on claims of interest from Wolves and other clubs.
Responding to that, he said: “You are always flattered that there is interest, but it also says that the work you have done throughout the season is paying off, but otherwise I have not put more into it.
“It came before the season ended, so my focus was on finishing as well as I could at Sturm Graz with a championship, and then of course I hope that I can achieve some even better things next season.”
He left Lyngby Boldklub for Sturm Graz last summer and was part of their title winning squad this season, playing 36 games in all competitions.
Wolves have received encouragement after the Dane talked about his dream of playing in the Premier League.
“It is a league that I dream of, and a league that I will be able to fit in well in the future. I feel that I can see myself in many leagues, but of course the Premier League will be the dream,” Chukwuani explained.
“I don’t have a time frame or a rush in that sense and I’m really just taking it step by step. Last season I played in Lyngby, and this season I’m playing in Sturm Graz. Time goes by quickly, but I actually feel like I’m taking it very slowly.”
His compatriots like Rasmus Højlund and Mika Biereth used Sturm Graz as a springboard to secure big moves. Chukwuani remains hopeful of following them and insists he’s ready to make the jump.
“It’s a fantastic springboard, and it’s a place where there are players who have moved on, and that was also one of the reasons why I went here in the past, so it’s a fantastic springboard,” he added.
“Everyone dreams of playing in the Premier League or a top 5 league at some point, and I don’t know when that will be, but I’m in a really good place to do it. Right now, I feel like I’ve made a really good step towards that, so we’ll see what time brings.”
