Leon Bailey is heading to Birmingham to reunite with Aston Villa following the end of his loan at AS Roma.
That’s according to journalist Francesco Lucca. The Italian reports on X today that Bailey is heading to Birmingham with his whole family.
He accompanies that with a video of Bailey at the airport. He had his head down and only provided a wave of his hand to the journalists assembled. His unsuccessful spell at Roma is now at an end.
Bailey joined the Italian side on loan in the summer but has barely featured due to injuries. Indeed, he was injured during his first training session with the Serie A side.
Ahead of his return from that issue, the attacker’s father-agent Craig Butler hyped everything up: “Soon, the player who constantly strives for excellence will return. Leon will soon return to the pitch for Roma and help them reach heights no one thought possible.
“I believe in it, and I know my son. Watch. Get your popcorn ready.”
Then Bailey was quickly injured again after his return.
He’s now back fit, but Roma’s splurge on attacking talent this month has left him surplus to requirements.
Aston Villa stay could be short
Whether he remains at Aston Villa, remains to be seen. He was also surplus to requirements there last summer, but their lack of options appears to have changed that. Reports in England have suggested he’s been told he’ll be a part of Unai Emery’s squad for now.
De Telegraaf, though, report he could be an option for Ajax. According to their information, the possibility of bringing him in is being explored by the Dutch giants. They’ve set their sights on signing a new winger before the end of the month.
Bailey is one of the options on their list. That, though, will likely depend on what Aston Villa decide once he’s back.
