Atlético Madrid defender Felipe was ‘one step away’ from joining Wolverhampton Wanderers this month, but a dispute over the contract offered has held up a deal from happening.
That’s according to Marca, who say it is up to the defender whether he departs the Wanda Metropolitano in January.
They explain that Atlético are not planning on any changes in their midfield or defence in this window, with their attack the only place they want to add in.
However, that could change if Felipe ‘accepts one of the offers’ he has to leave the club, where his contract is expiring in June anyway.
The Brazilian centre-back was ‘one step away’ from joining Wolves but ‘financial differences’ caused the deal to be delayed.
Now, Julen Lopetegui’s side are offering him a two-year contract at Molineux and the player only wants to sign for a year.
That’s led to further delays in his potential move to the Premier League as he and Wolves try to work out a solution to their differences.
There are other clubs in the picture for his signature and he knows that he doesn’t not count for Diego Simeone, so a move is likely. Whether it is Wolves who win the race, though, remains to be seen.
