Chelsea’s Levi Colwill is set to miss majority of this season after suffering a serious injury in training.

Enzo Maresca has already hinted the Blues could prioritise signing a new centre-back this summer. According to Bolavip, Chelsea are focusing on signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapié to improve their defence.

The Club World Cup winners would make a ‘final push’ to sign the Ecuador international in the coming weeks, depending on their defensive performances. The report states Chelsea would offer more than €60m to the Bundesliga side.

A move to Stamford Bridge will be a significant step for the 23-year-old, both sporting wise and financially. He would earn over €7m at Chelsea, much more than his currently salary at Bayern Leverkusen.

Bolavip claim Hincapié wants to join Maresca’s side but won’t force a move away from the German club.

They add the ‘next few hours will be key in determining’ his future, but it may take days for Chelsea to make the final decision.

Should they decide to bet on Hincapié and table a €60m bid, it wouldn’t be enough as Erik ten Hag’s side are requesting over €70m for their key defender.

The German press have no concrete update on Chelsea’s reported interest in the player.
